Creating a lifestyle by your pool for over 30 years
To maintain a healthy pool, it's important to have a basic understanding of how it works. Listed hereunder are five key things you need to know to avoid potential problems.
- Circulate the water: Pool water must be circulated for proper and efficient operation and to avoid the possibility of bacteria and algae becoming a problem. Circulate for a minimum of 8 hours each day, the best time to run your filtration is during the day.
- Maintain the equipment: The pump, filter and sanitation system are your most important pieces of equipment. The pump circulates the water while the sanitisation system ensures that sufficient quantities of residual sanitiser are present in the water at all times. The filter removes both visible debris and most microscopic matter. when material gets trapped on or in the filter, remove it by either manually cleaning cartridge elements or by backwashing (check your owners guide for instructions). Filters also need to be chemically cleaned when required to remove oils, scale and deeply imbeded debris. Note: Check local council guidelines regarding water usage.
- Vacuum and brush: All swimming pools have areas with little or no circulation. To prevent algae and bacteria becoming a problem, the walls and floor area should be brushed and vacuumed at least once a week.Brushing is a must even if you have an automatic pool cleaner or use a regular service person.
- Test the water: The amount of bather load, the weather and product application will affect the balance of you pool water. Test your water two to three times per week.
